About ASPO-USA
The Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas-USA (ASPO-USA) was founded in 2005 as a non-profit, non-partisan Research and Public Education Initiative to address America’s Peak Oil Energy Challenge. We are united by our concern for the potential cultural, economic and ecological impacts of petroleum depletion. ASPO-USA encourages prudent energy management, constructive community transformation, and cooperative initiatives in an era of depleting petroleum resources. We believe that mitigating the depletion of petroleum will require intelligent bipartisan action by elected officials, innovation and investment by the private sector, and broad awareness and action at the community level.
Our methods include a comprehensive program of public education, a positive endorsement of practical solutions, and an honest attempt to encourage competing parties to cooperate for their mutual benefit. APSO-USA is strictly non-partisan, and welcomes participants from all walks of life, income levels and ideological beliefs.
What We Do:
Annual Conference: Every Fall, ASPO-USA holds a Peak Oil Conference that features world-class scientists, economists, energy experts who understand the global peak oil energy crisis and its complex socioeconomic and geopolitical impacts. Our seventh annual conference will be in Washington, D.C. in October 2011. ASPO-USA organizes or helps facilitate several smaller educational events each year.
Website: The ASPO-USA website is designed to educate actors in all sectors about peak oil issues, provide a platform for debate about solutions, and inform those who want to initiate change. ASPO-USA’s web resources will be expanded in 2011 to include a searchable database of peak oil articles from the past seven years and an online video and education platform that will include video presentations and online trainings.
Publications: ASPO-USA publishes free newsletters offering current news, analysis and events relating to peak oil. The daily Peak Oil News is a compilation of significant global energy news, commentary, and analysis. The weekly Peak Oil Review provides a summary of the week, highlights price trends, depletion numbers, threats to supply, new supply completions, substitute fuel issues, new analysis and reports, plus a commentary article from writers within the ASPO-USA community and other guest analysts.
Why Support Us?
We are passed the time of debating Peak Oil. The era of easy-to-get, cheap oil is over. At home in America, life as we have known it is going to change. Globally, increasing unrest and instability are likely results of peak oil and gas. Recent reports from the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Government Accounting Office, the German Military, and the British Department of Energy and Climate all discuss the profound economic, defense, strategic and environmental consequences of shrinking oil supplies.
Time and energy have run out – it is time for bold, smart, and immediate action. Solutions must be guided by the premise of ‘net energy’ – choosing mitigation techniques that offer the highest energy return for the least amount invested.
ASPO-USA is poised to help drive these solutions. With connections to the world’s leading energy and industry experts, a board that represents key decision makers in the policy, industry, and community sectors, we are well-placed to help frame, develop, and advocate for the mitigation strategies necessary to meet the first great challenge of the 21st Century.
